What is it like to work for a high-end fashion designer?

Since 2015 I have had the privilege of working with Lian Rokman and the thing about Lian Rokman is that her priority is her brides. Despite the time and the limited time frames for production, Ms. Rokman used all means of production strategy to create unique designs for women that wanted their gowns to be more than just a garment.

Ms. Rokman, a daughter of a designer and a pattern maker, grew up in an artist environment. Watching her mother’s work is what helps her grow her vision as a couture wedding gown designer. From the age of 20, she has been designing distinct wedding gown composed of eclectic laces and 3d materials.

In 2015 she launched her first international bridal gown collection, Sicilia Collection while residing in the US. With this collection, Ms. Rokman learned how to adapt the language of design to the globalized bridal community in a manner that is unique but malleable for interpretation. From long-sleeve sheath bridal gowns to illusion straps and a low open back, this collection was the perfect play on ultra-feminine design. While all of the bridal gowns from this collection were incredibly successful, the show stopper was Eleonora: a sweetheart neckline of regal lace meets the georgette material from the hips to then open into a trumpet gown with a train. The relationship between the detail in contrast to the fine minimalist georgette creates a narrative on the subtle strengths of minimal design.

What Ms. Rokman’s gown develop before my eyes was the reason that I could not even consider leaving Lian Rokman Haute Couture. I landed a job with a visionary who builds through the material with intention of making brides feel one-of-a-kind on their wedding day.

So what is it like to work with a high-end designer? I can not say with a general language. But if you ask me what it is like to work with Lian Rokman, I would say it is the opportunity to learn how a visionary builds an empire off of passion and strategy.
